How many moving crates do I need? A room by room guide

3 min read

As a rough guide, allow around 20 crates for a studio, 30 for a one bedroom, 40 for a two bedroom, 55 for a three bedroom, 75 for a four bedroom and 100 for a five bedroom home.

A room by room feel

  • Kitchen: 8 to 12 crates (crockery, pans, food, small appliances)
  • Each bedroom: 6 to 10 crates (clothes, bedding, personal items)
  • Living room: 6 to 10 crates (books, media, ornaments)
  • Bathroom, hallway, study: 2 to 4 crates each

When to size up

If you are between sizes, always size up. Spare crates cost very little on a flat price package and it is far less stressful than running short on moving day. Heavy items like books and kitchenware fill crates quickly.

Let the calculator do it

Our crate calculator takes your home size and how much you have to pack, then recommends the right package in seconds. It is the quickest way to be sure.
